Reason to Smile- Hounds For Heroes

Hi everyone, I hope that you are well today.
During a very much treasured phone call with my Mum today, she told me to check out this story which she watched on her local news.
The story involves Allen Parton and EJ the dog, who feature in the book Endal- which depicts the true story of Allen's own life changing accident which left him dependant on a wheelchair and the world's most decorated dog, Endal.
The book is a must read and so is this short article about Allen's latest venture, a charity to help provide assistance dogs for veterans.
The link to the article is http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/hampshire/8557758.stm , but I also include the link to Allen, Endal and EJ's full story http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endal.

Please check out the story more thoroughly in the brilliant book http://www.amazon.co.uk/Endal-extraordinary-brought-family-brink/dp/0007303009/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1320365000&sr=8-1

Back to Reality

Well, there I was ready to post to you the cheery I'm home! post, my first after my fortnight away, which consisted predominantly of my gloating tales of my holiday in the sunshine- when after an hour and a half of writing solidly and proficiently at immense speed for once in my life, my laptop crashed and I lost EVERYTHING!
Ready to throw said laptop across the room, I endeavoured to compose myself with a cup of tea and when that failed to hit the spot, I turned to my friends Mr Baileys and Mr Ice to sort out my anger and disappointment.
Frustration finally back to acceptable and workable levels, I have once more picked up the keyboard in the hope that looking at the screen will miraculously bring back all of the work that I have just written....
Any minute now I'm sure it will all come back to me....
....nothing coming... still nothing....... nothing...nothing...
....nope- it's gone!
Well in hindsight, looking out of the window at today's weather, whilst also considering the weather at present across the UK, I doubt that any of you will be much interested in hearing my tales of my fortnight lounging on a tropical beach drinking scrummy cocktails and exquisite grub in the sunshine- agreed? Fair enough. Clearly the computer crashed for a reason then!
Well that put to bed, I have to say how nice it is to be back from my hols mentally rejuvenated and ready to get reconnected with everyone.
Having been completely off the radar on a Maldivian island in the middle of the Indian Ocean, I have been unable to check in with my site for well over a fortnight now and I am delighted to see that in that time we have incredibly reached and exceeded the 10,000 hits landmark.
Above any reassurance that this gives me that I am not sat here each night talking to myself, it is wonderful to know that my message is reaching more and more people, which will hopefully mean that when it comes to finally launching the charity to ensure better emotional support for those who become disabled and their partners and families we will have a greater body of like minded people in need of the same help.
Amongst those of you who have clicked upon my page, I have encountered some truly incredible people who I hope to get to know better in the near future.
In response to feeling a fantastic connection with these people, I dearly hope to launch a forum facility as a part of my website as soon as I am able, as I have personally found talking to others who are either in a similar position to myself, or indeed my husband or family for that matter, to be both enlightening and encouraging that others truly understand what we go through both physically and emotionally.
In the meantime, do please use our Facebook http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002588247268 and Twitter pages http://twitter.com/#!/DDisability to communicate both with myself and with others and express any feeling that any of my rambling monologues evoke in you.
Well after an exhausting evening of pumpkin carving- (yes I am aware that I am twenty four hours late for Halloween, but I suppose that pretty much sums me up!!), I am well and truly craving my bed.
I hope that you are as well as you can possibly be right now.
It's back to reality for me and for the first time in a long time I am really quite excited by the prospect of this!
On that note- I bid you sweet dreams everyone.
Until tomorrow....

Well, after failing me quite spectacularly once already, my laptop went and died completely on me when I went to post this onto my blog last night!
Suppressing a scream so that I would not wake my household at 3am, I had no choice but to proceed onto bed.
Thankfully my husband brought back my laptop from the dead this morning and I am now able to press publish once again- fingers crossed!
Have a wonderful day everyone.
So great to be back!
